When I was sworn into office, I made a commitment to preserve the integrity that Iowans demand of their elected Representatives and to drain the swamp in Washington. Members of Congress are civil servants entrusted to be good stewards of taxpayer funds and should not benefit or have special treatment due to their position. That is why I introduced a package of legislation that is aimed at reversing the status quo of Congressional Members receiving special treatment at the taxpayer's expense.
To promote fiscal responsibility within Congress, I returned over 20% of my office's Congressional budget to the U.S. Treasury Department in the amount to $275,000. It is these kinds of actions that I believe Members of Congress should carry out to set an example of how to properly manage the funds entrusted to us, not wasting them on frivolous amenities.
